Featuring a mintage of just 100,000 coins, one of Perth Mint’s most famous annual coin releases is here with its 2018 issue – the 2018 ½ oz Perth Mint Gold Kangaroo Coin.
The
Kangaroo series of gold coins was originally launched as the Gold Nugget series in 1986. However, Perth Mint changed the design to feature the Kangaroo in 1989 to celebrate one of Australia’s most unique and instantly recognizable marsupials.
Each of these coins contains ½ troy ounces of 0.9999 pure gold. Moreover, the government of Australia recognizes these coins as legal currency – granting them a face value of $50 (AUD) each.
The obverse sides of these coins showcase the Ian Rank-Broadley rendition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy. The Queen is facing the right; the Royal Crown perched elegantly atop her head. Honoring the artist who created this portrayal,
Perth Mint has imprinted the initials ‘IRB’ underneath the Queen’s image.
On the other hand, the annually changing designs on the reverse is one of the chief reasons for the anxious excitement from both collector and precious metals investor circles. This year’s Gold Kangaroo features two kangaroos bounding across a desert landscape. The dunes are visualized using stylish lines in the background, imparting character and elegance to these designs, while letting the kangaroos hog the limelight.
These 2018 ½ oz Perth Mint Gold Kangaroo Coins are essential purchases for those who want to maintain a full set of these coins, while the 0.9999 pure gold content attracts investors who want to diversify their portfolios with an Australian bullion gold coin.
