Malcolm Young formed AC/DC in Australia in 1973 following the collapse of his former band the Velvet Underground. The band played a few gigs around Sydney with his younger brother Angus as a lead guitarist. Angus at that time was only 18 years old, and his sister suggested that he wear his school uniform on stage during their gigs. AC/DC released Let There Be Rock in the fall of 1977, the album ended up being the first album of theirs to make the charts in the United States.

When lead singer Bon Scott died in February 1980, AC/DC went off track for a couple months until they replaced Scott with Brian Johnson, after which they recorded 'Back in Black' in April 1980. Back in Black ended up being the band's biggest album and in the U.S. alone over ten million copies were sold. Throughout the 1980's, AC/DC’s popularity began to slip, but they came back to the forefront with the 1990 release of ‘The Razor’s Edge’ which contained the hit “Thunderstruck.” AC / DC started to work on a new album in 2014 with producer Brendan O'Brien. While making the album, they announced that Malcolm Young had dementia and had left the band. However, AC/DC continued with the scheduled release of their album and even planned a tour for 2015. Malcolm Young died at the age of 64 two years later in November 2017.

These AC/DC silver guitar picks contain ¼ of an ounce of pure .999 fine silver and are backed by the Cook Islands government who give them their 2-dollar face value.

The obverse of these unique silver coins features the AC DC logo at the top, with Malcolm Young playing guitar in the center and “PLUG ME IN” minted at the bottom.

The reverse features a recent depiction of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in the center with the words “ELIZABETH II”, “2 DOLLARS”, & “COOK ISLANDS” minted around her image. The words “1⁄4 oz FINE SILVER .999” are minted at the very top of the pick and “EXTRA HEAVY” is minted at the very bottom.
